Guwahati: Soldiers of the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army shall be undertaking a mountaineering expedition to Mount Khangchengyao located at an altitude of 6,889 meters above sea level in North Sikkim from September 29 to October 8, Indian army officials have confirmed.
The 18 member team led by Major Ankit and Captain Sanyam Sharma was flagged off on 29 September 2020. An official said that the team will establish Base Camp and Advance Base Camp tentatively by September 30 next. The expedition plans to the Mount Khangchengyao peak on 7-8 October, 2020.
Mount Khangchengyao is the 4th highest Peak in Sikkim and the 10th highest peak in India. A deeply respected and revered peak by the locals in Sikkim, Mount Khangchengyao is known as the “Male Deity”, as per traditional Sikkimese folklore. “A highly experienced team has been shortlisted and trained for the expedition which requires sheer determination, and team spirit,” an army official said.
