Hyderabad: Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) in the city achieved a historic milestone of producing the one millionth pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) fuel bundles used for generating power at nuclear power stations.
Chief executive of NFC Dinesh Srivastav on Saturday said there has been sustained production of PHWR fuel assemblies, uranium and zirconium oxide powders and zirconium sponge in 2018-19. He said Nuclear Fuel Complex had made process improvements and developed advanced automation technologies in various lines of production for improving and enhancing production capacities.
Srivastav said some of the technologies were developed for the first time in the country used in manufacturing of components for advance jet and aero space applications. He said indigenisation of cost-effective high frequency resonant power supply for imported electron beam welding equipment was a success story as part of the Make in India campaign.
Critical items were also developed which were produced by NFC for meeting the requirements of strategic as well as defence applications.
Nuclear Fuel Complex celebrated NFC Day at Dr Homi Bhabha Convention Centre, DAE Colony in Hyderabad on Saturday. S Mervin Alexander, joint secretary (I&M), DAE, said NFC is successfully meeting the increasing demand of fuel requirements for PHWRs over the years.
