Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project: India’s first ever bullet train project aims to excel in speed and safety! The first bullet train of the country, linking Mumbai to Ahmedabad, is being developed on Japan’s E5 Shinkansen technology. According to National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), Japan’s E5 Shinkansen series is famous around the world for holding a zero-fatality record. Therefore, following a similar path by adopting the same technology as Japan, Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is also expected to excel in speed and safety. The high-speed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will operate at a speed of 320 kmph. The NHSRCL is executing the high-speed train project.
The bullet train will be equipped with several modern features. Also, it has been reported that the train will be provided with multi-purpose rooms for the needs of feeding mothers and patients. The total length of the corridor is going to be 508.17 km, out of which 348.04 km will fall in Gujarat, 155.76 km in Maharashtra and 4.3 km in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. En route both directions, the train will cover 12 railway stations in total- Mumbai, Vapi, Thane, Boisar, Vadodara, Virar, Sabarmati, Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora and Ahmedabad stations. The bullet train project, for which the foundation stone was laid in the year 2017, is likely to commence operations by 2022-2023.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the Railway Board had asked NHSRCL to study the feasibility of 10 more bullet train corridors across the country. The entire high-speed rail project, comprising of 10 routes will cover a distance of around 6,000 km in total. The project is likely to cost around Rs 10 lakh crore. Out of 10 bullet train routes, 6 routes have been identified already for the high-speed train operations including New Delhi-Mumbai, New Delhi-Kolkata, New Delhi-Amritsar, New Delhi-Varanasi, Patna-Kolkata, Chennai-Bengaluru routes.
