India’s Defence Sector Taps Into AI To Accurately Identify Targets In Aerial Photos

A news report indicates that while the defence forces were relying on interpretation of satellite imagery which had so far played a pivotal role in identifying terrorists camps, the armed forces are mulling launching a AI engine that can further analyse satellite photos and video feeds from drones to identify images and patterns in real-time.

Close on the heels of India’s surgical strike 2.0, India’s armed forces is planning to utilise artificial intelligence technology to identify and index for military objects in aerial photographs or in the videos. A news report indicates that while the defence forces were relying on interpretation of satellite imagery which had so far played a pivotal role in identifying terrorists camps, the armed forces are mulling launching a AI engine that can further analyse satellite photos and video feeds from drones to identify images and patterns in real-time.

According to the news report, AI technology will be used in two ways:

AI and deep learning tech will be leveraged to develop engines that can analyse video feed as well as satellite photographs for detection and classification AI can be a tool to assist field commanders in data-driven decision making aided by real-time imagery analysis

In an earlier article, we mentioned how AI and emerging technologies can be leveraged to leveraged to make the lives of our servicemen safer. The foreign and defence policy should be designed towards defending our country from external aggression while trying to minimize the loss of lives on our side. AI technologies can help in identifying the right target Right from targeting attack sites, laser guide missiles with precision to analysing the state of the fighter plane and will also play an important role in completing missions more safely and precisely.
