The Union Health Ministry announced on Wednesday that India has become the world’s fastest COVID-19 vaccine vaccinating country, with a daily average of 30,93,861 vaccine doses. India has now exceeded the US, which vaccinates 30.93 lakh people a day on average.
According to the ministry, on Day 81 of the vaccination drive, which began on January 16, 2021, nearly a month after it began in the US, the total number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered in India has surpassed 8.70 crore. India had given out 33,37,601 vaccine doses to the beneficiaries as of April 6, 2021.
In India, a total of 8,70,77,474 vaccine doses have been administered in 13,32,130 sessions. The first dose was taken by 89,63,724 healthcare staff (HCWs), and the second dose was taken by 53,94,913 HCWs. The first dose was given to 97,36,629 frontline personnel, and the second dose was given to 43,12,826 of them.
On the other hand, the number of new COVID-19 cases in India continues to grow, with the country registering over 1.15 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours, the largest single-day increase since the pandemic began early last year, bringing the total number of cases to 12,801,785. The total number of active cases in the country is currently 843,473.
According to statistics, India is the world’s fourth most affected country.
