Vice President to embark on a four-day visit to Vietnam

Vice President Lays Foundation Stone of Rajya Sabha Housing Complex in Delhi’s RK Puram

Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone of the residential complex via video-conferencing on Monday.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for Rajya Sabha Housing complex at RK Puram in Delhi on Monday.

While addressing the occasion, the vice president said that the land acquired for the purpose of building a residential complex for Rajya Sabha employees is located in the heart of the city, measuring 8,700 square metres. He said he is not happy with the efforts made in the past to put it to the intended use in time.

“I am amazed by the socio, economic, legal administrative issues and hurdles that come in the way,” the vice president said, adding that he was aware of the acute shortage of housing for the secretariat employees.

“The housing demand of secretariat employees is being met by only 38 percent, indicating a shortage of around 68 percent,” he said.

This comes a day after Naidu marked the 78th anniversary of the Quit India movement and called for an intensified campaign for Knit India to enable a strong and emotionally integrated nation. The vice president urged people to pledge to drive out poverty, illiteracy, inequality, gender discrimination, corruption and all kinds of social evil.

“Lack of sense of belonging to each other and unity of purpose and action had led to long subjugation and exploitation of India. Learning from this, all Indians need to be bound by the shared sense of Indianness while pursuing their respective cultural value and ethos. This is all about nourishing the spirit of nationalism. A perception of divided India would make us an easy target for others for fishing in troubled waters. A strong, unified and emotionally integrated India is the best defence against those casting an evil eye on us with questionable intentions,” the vice president posted on social media on Sunday.
