CRPF Gets 500 Trichy Assault Rifles

In November 2017, evaluation trials were carried out at the CRPF Academy in Kadarpur, Haryana. Functionality, accuracy and reliability of the weapon were tested.
As many as 15,000 rounds were fired. The rifle fired without any single stoppage, thus proving the reliability of the weapon.

TRICHY: The first batch of 500 Trichy Assault Rifles (TAR), developed by Ordnance Factory of Tiruchirappalli (OFT), was handed over to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Thursday.
OFT sources said that CRPF had ordered a total of 6,167 assault rifles. The order was placed after extensive field trials.

OFT has produced and dispatched more than 10,000 rifles to the Chhattisgarh police force and central armed reserve police forces like the ITBP, the BSF and the CISF.
TAR is the indigenous version of AK 47. “We have developed several weapons over the past 12-13 years, but Trichy Assault Rifle is our biggest successful weapon,” Shirish Khare, general manager, OFT said.
