NEW DELHI: American billionaire investor Ray Dalio lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “one of the best leaders in the world”.
In an interview, the founder of American investment management firm Bridgewater Associates, Dalio held discussions with the PM about mediation, the world and India.

In a tweet, Dalio called “PM Modi is one of the best, if not the best, leaders in the world” and credited him with uniting the entire country.
“What I’m most impressed about with Modi is how he has brought the country together by helping the full range of people, from those who are in abject poverty to rich business leaders,” Dalio tweeted.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister responded thanking Dalio for his kind words and also took a jibe at the social media users who were criticising Dalio for the interview.

The PM said that the credit for the transformation goes to the people of the country. “To empower so many Indians, especially women has been one of the most satisfying efforts of our tenure. The credit for the same goes to the people of India who made these movements their own and drove the transformation,” he added.

Earlier, in his tweets, Dalio also praised the government’s efforts to construct 100 million toilets, thereby reducing diseases and saving thousands of lives.
“He is doing that by providing both basics and cutting edge digital technologies as part of his mission for India’s direction. For example, his government built more than 100 million toilets which reduced diseases potentially saving approximately 300,000 lives by some estimates,” he said.
The American businessman said that PM Modi, with his massive mandate, has the potential to bring about revolutionary changes.
“Those are big deals that are hard to find in other countries,” he said.
Raymond Dalio is an American billionaire investor, hedge fund manager, and philanthropist. He is the founder, co-chairman and co-chief investment officer of investment firm Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s largest hedge funds. He is ranked as the world’s 58th wealthiest person in June 2019 by Bloomberg.
