1,000 Year Old ‘Shivling’ and Nandi Unearthed

These statues are believed to be 1,000-2,000 years old. A team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from Chandigarh on Tuesday visited the site and indicated the age of the idols.
“After the visit, we found that these idols, pillar and bricks could be of around 1,000-2,000 years old. I will submit my report to the authorities and they will take the final call on it,” said Subham Malik, a member of the team. He did not rule out the possibility of a temple being there.

Gaurav Kumar, SDM, Gharaunda, said that mining has been stopped after the finding of the idols. He said that the idols would be handed over to the ASI for further research.
“These idols were unearthed during the digging of sand. After getting information, I sent BDPO, Gharaunda, Prem Singh to look into the issue. We had informed the ASI on Monday which inspected the site today,” the SDM said.

Meanwhile, the people started worshipping ‘Shivling’ and Nandi citing it to be a good omen. They offered fruits and flowers. “It is a good omen that Lord Shiva came to our village to shower his blessings on us,” said a villager.

The residents were also surprised to find the ancient idols buried there. A resident said that the work to dig sand got underway late on Sunday evening. The driver of a machine noticed some hard surface. When he removed sand from there, he found the idols. The idols were brought out carefully, said another resident.
