Nagpur: US-based multinational Honeywell has decided to set up a Rs 1,200 crore textile plant in Butibori MIDC. It plans to produce Spectra — a specialized fibre used for defence, semi-defence and paramilitary purposes.
A delegation of the company led by Brian James Lasy met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Thursday and asked him to provide speedy clearances for the plant. Fadnavis promised them all cooperation.
P Anbalagan, chief executive officer (CEO) of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), said CM had earlier urged Honeywell to choose Butibori as power tariff in Vidarbha was lower compared to other parts of the state. MIDC estate had good road and rail connectivity. The officials agreed to his request.
Anbalagan further said Honeywell had already identified a 50 acre plot in Butibori. “We will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with them soon and hand over the plot after payment is made,” he added.
According to him, the plant will be a hi-tech one and will generate 300 direct jobs. “There will be a lot of indirect job creation. It will also help Butibori emerge as a hub for textile production,” he said.
Honeywell already has units in Pune and Aurangabad. It is the master systems integrater for Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Globally, the company is into aerospace, building technologies, performance materials and technologies and safety and productivity solutions.
Fadnavis also had a meeting with representatives of Russian steel manufacturer Novolipetsk (NLMK), which wants to set up a steel plant in Aurangabad. The steel would be used in transformers. Anbalagan said that in the first phase, NLMK would invest Rs 800 crore and Rs 5,000 crore in the second.
“It will create 500 direct jobs. The company has identified a 43 acre plot in Aurangabad MIDC. They had some issues regarding a gas pipeline. We have already told Bharat Gas in this regard,” he added.
